I have the same problem. This are the steps I’ve taken so far: – Download Argyll CMS. It is a.tgz file that I copied to my Applications folder. Mif filter for adobe indesign 1.1.1 for mac free.

Once there I’ve uncompressed the file and a folder named “ArgyllV2.0.0” has been copied under my Applications folder. There is no any installer here so not sure what else to do with all this files. – Then I’ve downloaded DisplayCAL-0install. I’ve unmounted the image and when I double click on DisplayCAL.app I get this message “This application requires PyGTK 2.24.0 to run.” I’ve searched for some information about what PyGTK is because it is the first I’ve heard about it.

I went to pygtk.org to see if there was any installer to have this installed on my Mac, but all the instructions I read are quite confuse for someone like me who is not a developer so I get quite lost and at the end of the day I can’t install DisplayCal that was the main reason. If someone can give me a hand and tell me what I’m doing wrong it will be much appreciated. A step by step tutorial explaining how to install DisplayCal on Sierra with all the applications needed for dummies would be awesome too. I’ll cross my fingers. Many thanks in advance. Everything is much easier than I thought. Let’s see what you have to do step by step: FIRST OF ALL UNINSTALL ANY PREVIOUS VERSION YOU MIGHT HAVE 1. Get DisplayCAL standalone from this link It will be downloaded in your Downloads folder. I have downloaded “DisplayCAL-3.5.0.0.d mg” 2. Move the dmg file to the Applications folder in your users’ home directory. I have moved it there instead of the main applications directory because I don’t want all users get access to it.

If you are not too familiar with Terminal and Paths, I recommend you to do the same. You will see now why. Create a new folder in this directory ( users/yourUserName/Applications) and name it “DisplayCAL-3.5.0.0” 4. Double click on “DisplayCAL-3.5.0.0.d mg” you just moved earlier to this directory. A new window will be opened with several applications and folders. Move all the files to the folder “DisplayCAL-3.5.0.0” you just made. You have now one folder named “DisplayCAL-3.5.0.0” with all the applications, files and folders that were in “DisplayCAL-3.5.0.0.d mg”.

Open Terminal (You can find it in Applications Utilities Terminal ). By default it should start something like this: “yourComputerName: yourUserName$”. Now copy and paste this xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /users/yourUserName/Applications/DisplayCAL-3.5.0.0/ DisplayCAL.app and click enter. Apparently nothing happens and command line will show “yourComputerName: yourUserName$” again.

Now get back to the folder “DisplayCAL-3.5.0.0” we made earlier where all the applications are and double click on “DisplayCAL.app”. The first time you run DisplayCAL it will notify you that you don’t appear to have Argyll CMS installed, or that it can’t find Argyll CMS. It will prompt you to either locate Argyll CMS or to download it.

Since you haven’t installed Argyll CMS yet, you’ll want to download it, so click the download button. By default it will try to save Argyll CMS (I have downloaded “ArgyllV2.0.0osx10.

6x8664bin.tgz”) in the Downloads folder. I recommend you to change destination here and select the same Applications folder in your users’ home directory, same place where you have your “DisplayCAL-3.5.0.0” folder. 6x8664bin.tgz” and you will get a folder named “ArgyllV2.0.0”. 11. Restart DisplayCAL. When prompted to find or download or find Argyll CMS click Browse now. In the file browser, navigate to the your user’s Application folder and select the top most Argyll CMS folder.

You should have now DisplayCal properly installed and ready to be used. Follow all steps as mentioned above and you shouldn’t have any problem. If something goes wrong it is because you took any step wrong.

Uninstall previous versions and start from scratch. Lemme know in case something isn’t clear. Hope this help.

Thirteen steps? That seems overkill. Download DisplayCAL.dmg. Double click to mount if it doesn’t mount automatically. Icon should appear on the desktop. Hold down the “Option” key on the keyboard and drag the mounted disk image to the “Applications” folder (or wherever you want to copy it). Run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/DisplayCAL-/.app Done.

After launching DisplayCAL for the first time, it’ll guide you through some additional steps which basically amount to clicking “OK” a few times. All of this (except step 3 because that is optional – you can run the application directly from the disk image if you so desire – and because it is the default way to install applications on Mac OS X anyway) is in the documentation, by the way (directly under the download link). With all respects: You probably know that installing DisplayCal in Mac isn’t as easy as expected due to certain requirements that can confuse end user who are not familiar with certain terms and procedures, using terminal and so on Many people who use monitor color calibration are just designers/photographers who doesn’t even know what “Run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/DisplayCAL-/.app” means. I’ve just tried to make a real step by step (something that seems to be weird to understand) to those who can get easily lost during a process that is a way different than any other program installation. Sorry if this bother you, feel free to delete my post in case you find it “too confuse” compare to yours.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate you trying to help out, I’m just not sure that adding a lot of additional/unneeded arbitrary steps in an otherwise unchanged procedure will really make it any simpler. A good step-by step should focus on the absolute minimal steps required to get up and running.

I.e., it shouldn’t include optional unneeded steps like “Move the dmg file ” because that is user preference, or “Create a new folder in this directory ” which is superfluous, or “Unzip ArgyllV2.0.0osx10. 6x8664bin.tgz”, which is also superfluous because that step is automatically done for you, or “Restart DisplayCAL.” which isn’t needed either.

So, we’re already down four steps from leaving those out alone. Keep it simple should be the mantra.

That can confuse end user who are not familiar with certain terms and procedures, using terminal and so on But that step in particular is also explained in the documentation in quite some detail. In fact, I consider that to be the only hard part (if you install at all, and don’t run directly from the mounted disk image), which is the reason why it has its own explanatory paragraph. Maybe it needs to be explained better, and I’m open to improving the documentation, but if so, I would need to know in which way, and it needs to make sense.

I have the Colormunki Display and can say that it works great for me. Quick and easy calibration.prints have been spot on since (when using a profiled printer) and it's well built. I read a few poor reviews about the reliability of the Spyder so I swerved that. I use Permajet papers and they will profile your printer free of charge for their papers, but if I intended to use other papers I would have gone for the Photo version.I've read that the calibrations is pretty quick with the supplied software. Have you tried the DisplayCal software with the Display?

My budget will not let me get the Colormunki Photo at 459 USD. Post added 06-05-18 at 03:43 PM. I use the Spyder5. I did use it with the suplied software, I now use it with the software supplied by my monitor manufacturer. Why do you think it is limited?Its my understanding that its limited by the software version you own. You still have to have the hardware (ie the Reader).

There are open source apps available that work with the hardware, I'm reading a bit more about DisplayCal which will work with all Spyder5 versions or the Colormunki Smile or the Colormunki Display. From what I have read DataColor uses the same reader for all their solutions from the Express through the Pro to the Elite so the only difference is the software. X-Rite on the other hand uses the same reader on their two top end models and a different reader on their lower end Smile so I plan to buy the midrange Colormunki Display. Its my understanding that each software version from both companies has more features included as the price increases. DisplayCal has similar features as the top end software and is open source. If you have a Mac, under System Preferences - Displays - Color, there is a Calibrate button that leads you through color adjustments with visual aids to assist you, and this will create a color profile for your settings.

This works pretty well, and definitely better than no calibration at all. Maybe Windows has a similar process, can anyone report on that?I've done the same thing with my windows laptop and truthfully I think the colors look OK but there are lingering doubts so I'm going to make sure. I use a little windows program called Monitor Calibration Wizard right now.

I'm buying the Colormunki Display, I'll try the Colormunki Software first then if I'm not satisfied it will be Display Cal.
