Nice to still have all the device jacks associated with a laptop. The experience trying to use a MacBook Pro (only 4 USB-C ports) has been maddening. The soldered-in memory is a limitation, but at this point, power users should be buying the machine fully-loaded with RAM anyway. Not the end of the world, but definitely a step back from the previous Mini, which was quiet good in terms of maintainability.

The deciding factor in buying this 2014 model (currently the latest model) was the compatibility it has with FireWire 800 via the Apple Thunderbolt adapter cable and USB 3.0. The hard drive I had with a USB 3 port worked fine with USB 2, but now I have the full speed of the USB 3 connection. The Intel i7 microprocessor along with 16 GB of memory supplies all of the speed I'll ever need. With legacy accessories like I have this little Mac Mini just fit the bill.
